Microsoft Teams Tutorial: Create a Group Chat in Teams
Group Chats in Microsoft Teams allow you to send and receive instant messages with multiple recipients at the same time whereas a single chat allows for sending and receiving messages with one recipient. Group Chats in Microsoft Teams is a common way to share real-time information with multiple team members at the same time.
Group Chat vs. Channel Post in Microsoft Teams?
Channel posts in Microsoft Teams is one of the many ways that you can have conversations with peers, colleagues, and stakeholders. Channel posts are similar to emails in that they are asynchronous (meaning that they are one-way). When you send an email, you’re not typically getting a real-time response.
Steps To Create a Group Chat in Microsoft Teams
Step 1: Click on the Chat icon in the app bar that is displayed on the left navigation bar of the Microsoft Teams user interface.
Step 2: Click on the “New Chat” icon at the very top of the chat pane (which lists all of the chat messages you’ve sent and received”.
Step 3: In the “To” field, search for and select the recipients that you want to include in your group chat.
Note: At this point, until you actually send a message, the group chat will remain in “draft” status in your chat list.
Step 4: Enter the message that you want to send to the recipients in the compose box and click “Send”. This will deliver your message and create the group chat.
