It is important to understand that out-of-office synchronizes between Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Teams. When an out-of-office is set in Microsoft Outlook, it will also apply to Microsoft Teams. When you set your out-of-office from the Microsoft Teams app, it will apply to Microsoft Outlook as well. However, this synchronization can be disrupted from time to time. When this happens, the result is that disabling your out-of-office in Outlook will not disable your out-of-office in the Microsoft Teams desktop app immediately or at all. Step 1: Click on your profile picture or initials in the upper right corner of the Microsoft Teams desktop app.

Step 2: Note that if enabled, your out-of-office message will be visible in this menu. Click on “Set status message”.

Step 3: Click on “Schedule out of office”.

Step 4: Next, toggle “Turn on automatic replies” off.

Step 5: After you toggle “Turn on automatic replies” off in the previous step, the out-of-office message field will be greyed out so that it cannot be edited. It will also grey out the “send replies outside my organization” field so that it cannot be edited. Click “Save”.

Step 6: An important note, if after you complete the steps above, you notice that your out-of-office message is still displayed in your profile picture in the Microsoft Teams app, simply change your Microsoft Teams status to “Available” and it will clear the out-of-office message.

Unfortunately, there is no way to directly disable your Microsoft Teams out-of-office in the Teams mobile app. To disable your out-of-office in Microsoft Teams mobile, you would need to disable it from either the Teams or Outlook desktop app. Alternatively, you can also disable your out-of-office in the Microsoft Outlook mobile app and it will automatically apply in the Microsoft Teams mobile app. The screenshot below illustrates what is displayed in the Microsoft Teams mobile app (on Android) when out-of-office is set. As the screenshot shows, there is no option to edit or remove out-of-office in the Teams mobile app.
